Bed Bugs

Many bugs look similar to bed bugs, such as bat and poultry bugs, so proper identification is key in knowing what you have and how to best treat it. Identifying these bugs, the adult is a reddish-brown and about the size of an apple seed. When engorged with a blood meal they then turn a darker red. When considering newly hatched and nymph bed bugs, these are much smaller and if not recently fed, nearly invisible to the naked eye due to their translucent coloring. While they are wingless, they are excellent hitchhikers and can easily transfer to both humans and pets for a meal. A thorough inspection and proper treatment by a certified technician can make you and your loved ones sleep better at night to make sure these bugs don't bite anymore.

Beetles

Beetles come in several forms and can enter from the exterior of your structure and harbor inside. Some feed on the wood inside of your homes such as powder post beetles posing a structural issue in your home others like the drug store or grain beetle which infects plants, herbs, spices, and stored grain products. One other beetle of note is the click beetle who serves as an occasional invader that ventures inside with a seasonal change or an attraction to light.  A thorough inspection, treatment, prevention, and education is performed through the use of environmentally safe materials on the inside and outside of the structure to alleviate this issue.

Carpenter Ants

Distinguishable by their size, these ants range from about a half-inch to an inch in size and come in a variety of colors from black, red, and yellow. These insects pose a structural issue as they are primarily wood-destroying insects that can damage the structure of a building or dwelling. While they do not eat the wood they create tunnels and nesting areas inside it eventually weakening it causing a larger problem over time. Primarily they prefer to nest in the exterior of a dwelling but can come inside and form a satellite colony in search of food and shelter. Our trained professionals will conduct a thorough inspection to determine entry points and any water damaged or infested wood. They will also provide the customer with any onsite education to make their home less attractive to these pests. Finally, provide a tailored treatment to eliminate the pest problem at its source.

Carpet Beetles

In New Jersey, the two most common types are the varied and black carpet beetles. While reactions to the bug are possible they cause more of an issue damaging fabric items such as carpets, clothing items, human and pet hair, and furniture to name a few items they prefer. In their larval state, they will feed on these items causing damage. While they can be introduced into an area from plants and flowers and infested fabric items, their primary source of entry is as an adult from the exterior of the structure looking for food. A thorough inspection, treatment, prevention, and education are performed to alleviate this issue.

Centipedes & Millipedes

Centipedes have a segmented body with each segment possessing its pair of legs. For this reason, they have also been nicknamed “a hundred leggers. Millipedes also possess a segmented body like the centipede with multiple legs. Both are considered nuisance pests and prefer to live outside in dark wet areas. Both pests enter the inside of the home and are most commonly found in basements and crawl spaces. Our trained professionals will perform an interior inspection and suggest preventive measures and treatment so they stay out.

Clover Mites

Red in color and about the size of a pinhead, these pests tend to feed on plants in large numbers. They are primarily a nuisance pest and can be accidental invaders as they sometimes make their way into buildings. One primary problem they cause is that if crushed, they produce a red stain which can damage property. Our team of trained professionals can be contacted to eliminate these problem pests.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches, while they do not usually bite, are a cause for concern as they can cause serious health problems for those people around them in an infestation. These pests can multiply fast and as a result of the extruded skin and waste, cause allergic reactions and asthma attacks for those around them. In addition, they are also vectors for disease as they can spread E. Coli and Salmonella and are commonly found in unsanitary areas. In short, they are a very dangerous type of pest that can invade your living space in a variety of ways. The most common types in our area are the American, Brown-banded, German, and Oriental Cockroach. A commonly mistaken and less of a threat is the Pennsylvania wood roach that mainly sticks to the outdoors in wooded areas but occasionally enters into structures. Our team of professionals with proven experience will inspect, treat, and eliminate these pests at the source and provide tips for future prevention.

Crickets

The most common crickets which invade structures are the house cricket and the camel or cave cricket. Once crickets enter a building they prefer warm, dark, and moist areas to thrive such as a basement, crawl space, or laundry room. Depending on the type of cricket, they can bite and transmit diseases through their excrement and saliva. In addition to the possible health-related issues associated with crickets, they also feed on fabrics such as clothing and furniture as well as organic matter like houseplants. Our professionals will suggest preventative measures and perform a comprehensive inspection. Crickets come from the exterior of the structure and once they find their way in care is taken to ensure they do not come back once treated.

Earwigs

Earwigs are occasional invaders and are more frightening in appearance than they are due to their pincer-like appendages. While they are not known to be harmful, they can be seen migrating into structures with the weather changes into damp and dark areas such as the basement, laundry rooms, or utility closets. Concerning these nuisance pests, our team of trained professionals will perform a comprehensive inspection with a carefully tailored treatment.

Fleas

Difficult to see with the naked eye, adult fleas are no larger than a grain of sand and are brownish-red in color. They possess a hard outer body that prevents them from being crushed and can jump as high as eight inches in length vertically onto their host. Fleas pose a serious health issue for both humans and pets as they transmit disease and parasites to their host while their saliva can cause an allergic reaction. Typically fleas are introduced through a pet or person who has spent time outside and the fleas have jumped onto them before coming back into their residence but can be introduced on objects such as an item of furniture in contact with an infected animal. Treating these pests takes much care and dedication as these pests can hide in various out-of-reach areas. Rest assured our trained professionals will explain the proper preparation methods, perform a thorough inspection of the property, treat the entire interior and exterior, if needed, of the structure with certified safe materials, and provide education after treatment has been performed.

Flies

Many types of flies exist in our area and some of those most commonly found are the house fly due to their ability to reproduce quickly, fruit flies due to their attraction to food waste, and produce hitchhiking into areas from transported food, and drain flies or sewer gnats which feed on organic matter in pipes, drains, and pools of stagnant water. Flies can become a health issue if left unchecked as they carry bacteria and pathogens from their constant contact with unsanitary conditions. Through a combination of proper sanitation techniques to eliminate breeding sites, preventing access into structures, and a thoroughly performed integrated pest management inspection our trained professionals will ensure these pests are eliminated and your property is guarded against future issues once and for all. Some of the methods suggested include environmentally friendly insecticides and/or fly lights in commercial accounts.

Mosquitoes

Mosquitos are not only a nuisance but are extremely dangerous as they carry and transmit bloodborne pathogens such as the Zika and West Nile virus, malaria, and Chikungunya to their host. Mosquitos can hide in a variety of areas around the affected property and seek out several prime conditions to thrive. These include those which provide food such as flowering plants for nectar for the male and a blood meal for the female to create their eggs, water to lay eggs in natural or artificial containers, and shelter which may provide a good harborage such as gutters, downspouts, and under heavy vegetation. Having the hands-on experience necessary to manage these pests, our trained professionals can suggest preventive measures while ensuring the most optimal treatment for the task at hand. We offer several types of backyard control for mosquitoes such as a recurring barrier protection service, special event treatment sprays, all-natural protection, and a combined tick and mosquito treatment.

Moths
(Webbing Clothes or Pantry Pests)

Moths are a common household pest in New Jersey and they vary in two common types. The Indian meal moth, more aptly known, as the pantry pest, is a common type of moth which feeds on certain foods such as grain products like cereals and pasta, animal feed, and spices. Typically these pests enter into a home or structure packages or products from a warehouse or store which already possessed an infestation. They possess gray bodies with brown wings and can be seen flying around the infested food products to deposit their eggs which the hatched larvae feed on. The other type of moth common to our area is the webbing clothes moth. It is a common fabric pest in which the larva or caterpillars feed on various types of fabric such as furs, silk, wool, cotton, and other synthetic fabrics. They get their name from the patches of silk webbing that are produced from their diets. The good news is that moths can be prevented through proper sanitation methods combined with targeted treatment. Our trained professionals will find the source, provide education for effective sanitation, and then spot treat and bait infested areas for maximum effectiveness.

Rodents (Mice & Rats)

Concerning rodents, they can be broken down into two groups, mice and rats. Mice that typically infest structures in our areas are house and deer mice. In addition to damaging the structures in which they infest, they also destroy the utilities and personal contents inside through chewing to create their nests. In addition to creating a financial issue for the inhabitants of the structure, they also cause a health problem as they spread illnesses such as salmonellosis and dysentery in the case of the house mouse and Hantavirus in the case of the deer mouse as they can contaminate food stock and surfaces with their saliva, urine, and feces. Concerning rats, two types are most common in our area, the roof and Norway rat. Roof rats are known for their ability to climb and get their name from their ability to enter into a structure from an attic or the roofline from an adjoining building or a nearby tree causing havoc when inside the building infested. Norway rats are known for their ability to build burrows close to nearby buildings they frequent and are poor climbers so they tend to be on the ground level close to their food source. Both mice and rats can also bring fleas and ticks into the structure as they typically come in contact with these other pests and can cause further complicated issues. Our team of professionals will perform a thorough inspection of the property and structure, determine entry points, suggest exclusion methods, treat, and eliminate these pests at their source. If rodenticides are used as a treatment method, they will be secured in a labeled and tamper-proof station for safety precautions.

Silverfish

Silverfish are a nuisance pest that gets their name from their silver and grayscales and their fast pace of movement. While they are attracted to moist and humid areas in a building structure they will feed on items such as fabrics, glues, paper products creating an issue over time for your personal belongings. Commonly they are introduced through boxes, papers, and packaging where they are already infested but can make their way inside from cracks in the foundation or within crawl spaces. Our trained professionals will perform a thorough inspection to determine areas of infestation and the structure will be treated as needed with certified materials.

Small Ants

In New Jersey, small ants can be broken down and categorized into several types such as the acrobat, odorous house, pavement, pharaoh, and citronella ants. Most of these ant types are considered nuisance pests inside of structures as they can contaminate food, leave behind foul-smelling odors, in some cases chew on the insulation of wiring, and even congregate around water sources in warmer weather. Typically these ants live outside in a colony within the ground and travel to the inside of structures for food and water sources to bring back to their nest and, at times, for shelter from the elements. The pharaoh ant requires particular care as not only can they "bud" their colonies where the queen will move to another area when threatened or disturbed transferring the problem but they can also transmit diseases which include salmonella and streptococcus. Our trained professionals will perform a thorough inspection, treatment, prevention, and education to alleviate these pests using a wide variety of methods for the particular issue at hand.

Spiders

In New Jersey, spiders that enter the home come in several types. These are the house spider, jumping spider, wolf spider, and the infamous black widow spider. The first three are not much more than a nuisance but do not typically cause harm. The one mentioned the black window, has the potential for its venom to be strong enough to hurt their human target. All of these spiders can be seen entering structures from the exterior to build webs in order to catch their prey inside. They can be treated with an exterior power-spraying treatment in all areas prone to infestation while the interior consists of treating several areas of concern.

Spotted Lanternflies

The lanternfly is an invasive pest, recently spread to New Jersey. With their brightly colored wings and spots, they can cause significant damage from feeding to both crops and hardwood tree species in large numbers. Typically they swarm to vertical objects and objects warmed in direct sunlight. Due to the problem, they should be dealt with as a priority for extermination.

Stinging Insects
(Bees, Hornets & Wasps)

New Jersey is home to a wide variety of stinging insect types and can be easily identified into three categories; bees, hornets, and wasps. Bees commonly found are the bumblebee, carpenter bee, digger bee, and honey bee. Hornets, with their thin wasp-like body, are baldfaced hornets. such as cicada killers, mud daubers, paper wasps, and yellow jackets. Some of the above bees are more dangerous than others but the majority can become a threat to humans and pets alike when they feel threatened near their nesting or feeding areas. In some cases, bees and wasps can nest on or inside the eves, facade, or walls of a structure causing devastating damage to the building or even in the ground waiting for unsuspecting passersby to sting. On the other hand, many of these bees serve as pollinators and are beneficial to nature. So, having many flowering plants around one's property makes controlling them an issue, and indiscriminately spraying would inadvertently harm non-target insects as well. Our team of professionals is specially trained to perform a thorough inspection of the property and structure, determine entry points, suggest exclusion methods, treat, and eliminate these pests at their source. If a honeybee colony is identified we will recommend a beekeeping professional to carefully extract the queen, hive, and honey from the structure while repairing any damage caused by the bees over time through nesting.

Stink Bugs

Stink bugs, also called shield bugs, are invasive but not dangerous to people. They are known for their foul-smelling odor which is used as a deterrent to predators. Generally, these are seasonal insects and find their way inside structures to overwinter when the weather gets cooler and reemerge with warmer weather. Treatments are most effective in the fall by power-spraying the exterior to prevent them from entering the structure.

Termites

The presence of termites in a dwelling or structure can pose significant damage in which they infest. They reside in subterranean colonies and can be seen above the soil within the structure in mud tubes traveling towards their next meal; the framing of the building. Most property owners do not know they have an issue and until a home inspection is performed, construction work opens a wall, or when warm weather arrives termite swarmers emerge and drop their wings en masse. These subterranean termites feed on cellulose found in wood and while foraging can find their way inside the structure through a crack in the foundation. Once inside, these pests can travel behind the walls of the structure and under the floors unnoticed before they are caught and the damage is already done. Fortunately, the most effective way to eliminate and manage them from coming back is with the help of our highly trained professionals. We will perform a thorough inspection of the premises, educate and inform customers of minimizing the possibility of infestations to the property as noted and provide multimodal forms of treatment and prevention. As an alternative to the traditional treatment methods involving the injection of hundreds of gallons of pesticides into the soil, we now also offer a just as effective use of advanced perimeter baiting systems and targeted liquid treatment to reduce the environmental impact on our planet.

Ticks

In New Jersey, multiple types of ticks exist in both rural and suburban areas. They are especially relevant in overgrowth and can be found on a variety of wildlife that humans and their pets commonly come in contact with and become hosts to. All of the various species can spread and transmit several diseases and depending on the type, American and Brown dog ticks spread Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lone Star ticks spread ehrlichiosis and tularemia, and Blacklegged or deer ticks can spread Lyme Disease. Since these pests live in areas with dense vegetation and high grasses, it is best to treat those areas along the edges of your property and fence line to employ a barrier of protection; especially if your property is frequently used by wildlife. Our trained technicians will perform a thorough inspection of the premises, educate and inform customers of minimizing the possibility of infestations to the property as noted, and provide multimodal forms of treatment and prevention. If needed, inside treatments will be performed to eliminate any target pests inside the structure.
